Meek and Lowly Pt-5

Submissive

One of the aspects of meekness includes Submissiveness.

“For I have come down from heaven, not to do My own will, but the will of Him who sent Me. John:6:38

JESUS was submissive to GOD the FATHER even to death. HE did not do anything on HIS own but whatever the FATHER taught Him, HE did that.

So Jesus explained, “I tell you the truth, the Son can do nothing by himself. He does only what he sees the Father doing. Whatever the Father does, the Son also does. Jn:5:19

He was also submissive to HIS earthly parents by obeying them when HE was a little boy.

Then he returned to Nazareth with them and was obedient to them. And his mother stored all these things in her heart. Lk:2:51

So what made JESUS submissive to GOD’s will and how did HE sacrifice HIMSELF to accomplish the will of the FATHER?

The Bible says in Hebrews:5:8, that HE learnt obedience through the suffering HE underwent.

Even though Jesus was God’s Son, he learned obedience from the things he suffered.

I was really amazed while writing this blog about the number of verses I came across that speaks of the obedience of JESUS. When you want to develop your character focusing on JESUS’s character, the best thing to do is to read and meditate on the particular topic scriptures. In today’s context let us meditate on submissiveness/obedience based scriptures.

Write it down or memorize, do whichever works best for you. The more you meditate, the more you will start working towards it. The more you work at it, the more you will change internally. Persistence is the key, the Word of GOD is the resource and the greatest Teacher who is ever present with you is the HOLY SPIRIT!

The 3 main categories of submission are,

1. Submit to GOD

“Submit to God, and you will have peace;
then things will go well for you. Job:22:21

Therefore submit to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you. James:4:7

The key things that happen when you submit to GOD are first, you will have peace, second, all things will go well with you and thirdly James says when you submit to GOD the devil will flee from you. Let doing GOD’s will be your top priority. When you submit everything into HIS hands and ask for HIS Will to be done, you will not only be assured of HIS peace but at the same time, you will know that all things will work out for good when HE is in control.

And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose. Rom:8:28

Here are a few more verses you can meditate on,

I delight to do Your will, O my God; Your Law is within my heart. Ps:40:8

Teach me to do Your will, For You are my God; Let Your good Spirit lead me on level ground. Ps:143:10

‘Your kingdom come Your will be done, On earth as it is in heaven. Mt:6:10

“For whoever does the will of My Father who is in heaven, he is My brother and sister and mother.” Mt:12:50

2. Submit to Authority

13 For the Lord’s sake, submit to all human authority—whether the king as head of state, 14 or the officials he has appointed. For the king has sent them to punish those who do wrong and to honour those who do right. I Peter:2:13

It’s very important to submit to your authority if you are a child submit to your parents, if married submit to each other and if you are working submit to your boss. Being in submission holds us accountable.

Here are some scriptures to meditate,

Let everyone be subject to the governing authorities, for there is no authority except that which God has established. The authorities that exist have been established by God. Rom:13:1

Honour all people, love the brotherhood, fear God, honour the king. Servants, be submissive to your masters with all respect, not only to those who are good and gentle but also to those who are unreasonable. I Peter:2:17,18
3. Submit to One Another

And further, submit to one another out of reverence for Christ. Eph:5:21

Finally, it is very important to submit to one other. I love the below scripture, it summarizes the entire concept of submissiveness into one. JESUS being GOD humbled Himself, we all should likewise try to be humble like HIM.

Phil:2:5-11

5 You must have the same attitude that Christ Jesus had.6 Though he was God,
he did not think of equality with God as something to cling to.
7 Instead, he gave up his divine privileges;
he took the humble position of a slave
and was born as a human being.
When he appeared in human form,
8     he humbled himself in obedience to God
and died a criminal’s death on a cross.
9 Therefore, God elevated him to the place of highest honour
and gave him the name above all other names,
10 that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow,
in heaven and on earth and under the earth,
11 and every tongue declare that Jesus Christ is Lord,
to the glory of God the Father.

Here are few other Bible verses to meditate,

Don’t be selfish; don’t try to impress others. Be humble, thinking of others as better than yourselves. 4 Don’t look out only for your own interests, but take an interest in others, too. Phil 2:3

Honour all people, love the brotherhood, fear God, honour the king. Servants, be submissive to your masters with all respect, not only to those who are good and gentle but also to those who are unreasonable. I Peter 2:17-18

You younger men, likewise, be subject to your elders; and all of you, clothe yourselves with humility toward one another, for GOD IS OPPOSED TO THE PROUD, BUT GIVES GRACE TO THE HUMBLE. I Peter 5:5

22 Wives, submit yourselves to your own husbands as you do to the Lord.23 For the husband is the head of the wife as Christ is the head of the church, his body, of which he is the Savior. 24 Now as the church submits to Christ, so also wives should submit to their husbands in everything. Eph 5:22-24

Back in the days, when I was working as a Software Analyst I used to start my day at work by reading daily devotions followed by a small prayer. I really felt they were my energy boosters for that particular day. After I quit my job, I felt the LORD put this in my heart to start a blog for working professionals, students or stay at home moms like me to help them reflect on GOD's word each day. I hope and pray that GOD will speak to you personally through these blogs and you will be able to live your life for the glory of GOD. GOD bless, Alpha Arunesh
